Cascadia JCL That’s Entertainment Contest Rules 2022

That’s Entertainment is a JCL talent show for student delegates to showcase their talents. Ideas for acts include, playing a musical instrument, singing, sharing a musical composition, acting in a one-person play, dancing, martial arts or gymnastics routines, stand up comedy, and more! Participants are scored on their preparation and expertise (15 points), complexity and originality (15 points), performance (10 points), stage presence (5 points), and presentation (5 points). The top three finishers receive gift cards as an award for their awesome achievement.

That’s Entertainment acts are all about your talents, so they do not need to have a classical theme. (However, classically themed acts are always welcome!)

Since our convention will be online, That’s Entertainment will be online too, giving participants even more options for their acts. Each act will be prerecorded and submitted to the convention in advance of the convention. The recorded acts will be edited into a single video and streamed during the convention from a private YouTube channel.

Sound interesting? Here is what you need to know to enter:

  1. Submit your video audition to dana.oday.senior@gmail.com by Monday, March 14, 2022. (NB: while we call this an “audition,” if selected for participation, the video you submit may be the video used, so your video should be polished, complete, with all costumes, props, etc., and ready for judging/viewing.)
  2. Submissions should include the following:
    1. In the subject line of the email write “That’s Entertainment Audition.”
    1. The video of the Act should be attached to the email, or if too large, linked via DropBox, Google Drive, or One Drive.
    1. You can share your file via your own YouTube channel, but if so (1) please make sure it is private and (2), please understand we will likely ask you to resubmit as we will need the video file itself so we can edit the video into the longer That’s Entertainment production for streaming to the convention.
    1. The contest chairs wish you to know  DaVinci Resolve is safe video editing software that is available for free download.  Video tutorials on how to use DaVinci Resolve can be found on YouTube.
  3. Due to COVID, we strongly encourage participants to consider entering solo acts unless all participants in group acts live in the same household. If you do opt to enter an act with more than one person from different households, your act must either be a) performed and recorded outdoors and socially distanced; or b) recorded indoors with participants following all vaccination, testing, masking, and distancing rules, and/or other COVID protocols required by your school for in-person attendance.
  4. No later than Wednesday, March 16, 2022, the event chair will inform you if changes are needed to your act or if your act needs to be re-recorded. If you are instructed to make changes to your act or otherwise rerecord your act, you must submit the rerecorded act no later than Monday, March 21, 2022. The event chairs need time to review the acts and edit them into the That’s Entertainment video. This takes time. So, you absolutely must submit your final Act on or before Monday, March 21, 2022.
  5. Once all final copies of acts are submitted, judges will review the videos and score them as outlined above. The results of That’s Entertainment will be announced after the conclusion of the That’s Entertainment stream at the general convention.

Have questions? Please ask your questions before acts are due on March 14! To ask questions, please email dana.oday.senior@gmail.com and put “That’s Entertainment” in the subject line.
